The scope of the contract includes modernizing Francis turbines, and supplying new generators, the control technology as well as the electrical and mechanical equipment at the run-of-river power plant.

To be financed by the Liberian and the Norwegian governments, the European Investment Bank, and the German bank KfW, the rehabilitated project will generate higher output, which is about one-third higher than the previous machines, and power more than one million inhabitants when complete.

Originally built in 1960s, the plant and the dam, which is situated close to Monrovia, were damaged during the civil war.

Voith Hydro president and CEO Roland Munch said that with this contract, the company is able to significantly contribute to the economic development of the country.
