Decmil, which was subcontracted the work by Water Corp, will deliver the tank upgrade project.

Water Corp North West regional manager Kerrie Chapman said the water tank upgrade works would commence on 24 March 2012 and would also include some pipe cut-in works on Karratha Road.

"There will be heavy machinery and increased traffic associated with the demolition and construction works, so for safety reasons we need to close vehicle access to the single lane track next to the Karratha Visitor Centre and the Lookout site," said Chapman.

"We appreciate this is a popular tourist site so we are trying to look at how we can allow pedestrian access to the site where possible and we will open up vehicle access when work is not being undertaken when it is safe to do so."

The upgrade project is the final phase of a larger upgrade program which included duplicating 2.95km of water main on Stovehill Road and Karratha Road, completed in September 2011.

The water tank upgrade project to be expected to be completed by September this year, will improve the security and reliability of water supply in the town.
