Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said that “The mindless use of coal is creating pollution and we need to see how to switch from thermal power to other unconventional sources of energy such as wind and tidal power”.

RK Pachauri director general of TERI said that the state government plans to allot land to The Energy and Resources Institute at the Baruipur township for studying the impact of climate change. The institute would provide scientific and knowledge inputs on various aspects and impact of climate change.

RK Pachauri said that “Apart from studying the impact of climate change on agriculture, health and other aspects, we will also look at strategies to move to alternate sources of energy.”

RK Pachauri further said that TERI was undertaking a study on the impact of climate change in Sunderbans. Once the study is done funds will be mobilized to cover the whole state and added that the study on Sunderbans was expected to be ready within a year.
