The other partners in the project introducing CleanSteps Carbon Offsets as new feature of WGES’ natural gas supply service including Carbon Reduction Fund are Chesapeake Bay Foundation, J.B. Hunt Transport Services and Sterling Planet – a clean energy company.

Under this initiative, customers choosing WGES as their natural gas supplier will be able to match up to 100% of their natural gas usage with CleanSteps Carbon Offsets, resulting in reduction of GHG emissions, an unavoidable result of modern lifestyles.

Carbon offsets will come from clean air projects, starting with a program created by J.B. Hunt to reduce long-haul trucking mileage by shifting freight to more efficient rail transportation, thereby reducing fuel use and GHG emissions.

In addition, both Sterling Planet and WGES will contribute to the newly established Carbon Reduction Fund, administered by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to develop new carbon offset projects that cut GHG emissions.

WGES president Harry Warren said that CleanSteps Carbon Offsets brings a new, environmentally-friendly product feature to their natural gas customers and is part of their broader corporate commitment to clean and efficient energy solutions.
