The expansion project, which is expected to cost about $217m, will consist of about 23 miles of new pipeline, a new compressor facility in Dallas County, Alabama, and upgrades to existing compressor facilities in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.

The company will build the project in two phases: 95,000 dekatherms will be placed into service in 2012, while 130,000 dekatherms will be placed into service in 2013.

The company said the Mid-South expansion project will provide service on the Transco pipeline to the City of LaGrange (Georgia), Progress Energy Carolinas, and Southern Company Services.

The Transco pipeline is a 10,000-mile pipeline system with current system capacity of about 9.6 million dekatherms per day.

The pipeline transports natural gas to markets throughout the northeastern and southeastern US.
