The well, which was drilled about 4km northeast of the Tyrihans field and 8km southeast of the 6406/3-8 oil/gas discovery, has been permanently plugged and abandoned.
It was drilled by the Transocean Arctic drilling facility, to a vertical depth of 4050 metres and a total measured depth of 4250 metres below the sea surface.
The facility will now move to production licence 418 in the northern part of the North Sea to drill appraisal well 35/9-8, which is operated by Wintershall Norge.
6407/1-6 S was terminated in the Ror formation from the Lower Jurassic Age at water depth of 291 metres.
The main exploration target for the well was to confirm presence of petroleum in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks, which includes the Garn and Ile formations, while the secondary exploration target was to confirm petroleum in reservoir rocks in Lower Cretaceous, mainly the Lange formation.
During the exploration activity, Aquiferous reservoirs with gross vertical thicknesses of 118 and 123 metres, respectively, were discovered in the Garn and Ile formations with reservoir quality.
Drilling confirmed the presence of gas/condensate in three thin sandstone intervals with a total net vertical thickness of 9 metres in the Lange formation, and with a gross reservoir thickness of 52 metres.
