Located in northeastern Wisconsin, the North Appleton-Morgan transmission line project is part of the company’s Bay Lake project and features facilities in Outagamie, Brown, Shawano, Oconto and Marinette counties.

The company said the project will address reliability concerns, changes in generation and demand in the region.

American Transmission local relations consultant David Hovde said, "Without these reinforcements, areas of northeastern Wisconsin, including Green Bay and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, would be vulnerable to widespread outages."

The PSC, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Department of Agriculture will undertake a regulatory review of the project.

Public and technical hearings as well as an environmental impact statement will be included in the review.

The project is expected to cost between $307m to $327m depending on the route and substation alternatives.

If approved, construction is expected to start in 2017 and the line may start operations in 2019.

ATC operates the electric transmission system in portions of the Upper Midwest and currently owns 9,480 miles of transmission lines apart from 529 substations.
