Conservation and substitution possibilities are also included in the action plan.

WISE Director General G M Pillai said that the action plan was conceived to project the actual potential for renewables in the state. “Rajasthan can be the powerhouse of grid-connected renewables as there is huge potential for renewable energy in the state. The plan suggests the state to pick the right technology as per the availability of resources,” Pillai said.

“Rajasthan should implement air based cooling system rather than water based system for its thermal power plants. Similarly, it should utilise acres of barren land in Barmer and Jaisalmer judiciously to develop green energy,” Pillai suggested.

“The action plan suggests that the state has the potential to develop grid connected renewable power projects in the range of 97,636 MW to 4,45,794 MW. Solar voltaic and thermal sources together can contribute upwards of 85221 MW to 426103 MW depending on land availability,” Pillai said.
