Carried out under a $800,000 sub-contract with main automation contractor, Genesys Control, the work forms part of major automation migration effort of Electroguayas.

Under the contract, the company has updated the plant’s turbine/generator control systems and associated human machine interface (HMI), besides upgrading the vintage mechanical steam governor/actuation system with an all-electric actuation system for steam control.

Designed to the SIL II safety integrity level, the control system can provide enhanced equipment safety as well as improved plant availability and reliability.

Electroguayas BU manager Carlos Julio Balda said, ”These control system upgrades have improved the operational flexibility and reliability of our power plant and enabled us to monitor all of our critical control system parameters.”

Wood Group GTS and Genesys had also collaborated to update a Pratt & Whitney FT4 Power Pac combustion turbine generator 29 MW at the same power plant in Ecuador.
