With this, the 444MW hydropower project on River Alaknanda in the Chamoli district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand has achieved full financial closure.

The run-of-the-river project is expected to generate an estimated 1,665 million kWh of electricity each year.

The project will build a 65m diversion dam near Helang village in Chamoli to create a small reservoir in the Alaknanda River.

A 13.4-kilometer headrace tunnel will carry the water to an underground powerhouse near Haat village to generate the power, and all the diverted water will then be returned to the river.

The hydroelectric project is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
