Scheduled to be commissioned in 2016, the 104MW power plants are expected to generate electricity for rural areas in southeastern Oman, outside the national grid.

Located on the island of Masirah on Oman’s eastern coast, the 56MW Masirah plant will feature seven Wärtsilä 32 engines.
Comprising six Wärtsilä 32 engines, the second 48MW facility will be located in Saih Al Khairat.

Wärtsilä Power Plants regional director Lars-Åke Kjell said: "These projects support our strategy of providing reliable distributed capacity with Smart Power Generation technology. They also illustrate our performance in hot and dry conditions."

Recently, Wärtsilä announced a 120MW distributed power generation project in the Musandam governorate of Northern Oman.
