The Moabsvelden environmental approval was granted under the National Environmental Management Act 1998 and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations 2006.
Additionally, the environmental approval marks the second of three major licenses required to develop Moabsvelden coal project and complies with the application submitted with no additional conditions or constraints.
The Moabsvelden project has already received Mining Right license and is scheduled to receive the third and last major license, the Integrated Water Usage License, in due course.
Meanwhile, the company is discussing with the Department of Water Affairs regarding for final license for the South African coal project.
The Moabsvelden coal project is located in the western portion of the Witbank coal field in South Africa and has been the source of more than half of all coal that has been produced in South Africa.
The first coal production is likely to begin in 2013 following receipt of all regulatory approvals and Xceed holds a 74% interest in the project through its wholly owned subsidiary, Focus Coal Investments.
