The new gas-fired combustion unit, which is expected to cost about $117.6m, will have a generating capacity of 168MW and will complement the plant’s Unit 3 that started commercial operations last month.

Pending regulatory approvals, the fourth unit is scheduled to start operation by the 2013.

The addition of the new unit will increase the capacity of the Jones power station up to 822MW, enough to power more than 600,000 homes.
