The assignment includes project management, time management, detail engineering and building permitting assistance services for the mineral processing plant expansion project. The work will be carried out between this May and next March.
The Kevitsa copper-nickel mine in northern Finland was acquired by Boliden in June 2016. The operation, which comprises an open-pit mine and a mineral processing plant, went into operation in 2012. The ore concentrates are supplied to Boliden’s own smelting plant in Harjavalta and to external customers.
The Kevitsa deposit – first discovered in 1987 – is one of the largest ever mineral discoveries in Finland. The aim of the expansion project is to increase the production to 9.5 million tonnes annually. The investment includes a new autogenous milling circuit and capacity increase for concentrate filtration process. The investments will be commenced in 2018 and full production will be achieved in the first quarter of 2020.
Pöyry Finland Industry Business Group President Kalle Rasinmäki said: “Pöyry is proud to continue almost a decade long co-operation with Kevitsa, from the initial investment project through every step of plant modifications. Pöyry has gained knowledge from thousands of large global industrial investment projects during the past 60 years. This experience is put into practice also in the Kevitsa production expansion project.”
The value of the order is not disclosed. The order was recognised within the Industry Business Group order stock in first half of this year.
