Vestas has secured an order from E.ON’s subsidiary Avacon Natur for a 29MW wind farm to be built in Lower Saxony, Germany.

According to the contract terms, the Danish wind turbine manufacturer will deliver seven wind turbines of its V136-4.2MW range for the German wind farm. Each of the wind turbines will have a hub height of 166m, which is currently the tallest standard offered by the company.

Vestas claimed that the V136-4.2MW turbines will deliver excellent energy production for the wind farm, which will come up at a highly complex steel production facility.

The Danish wind turbine manufacturer will also handle the civil engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) works related to the wind farm, which will include the design and construction of foundations, crane pads, and roads.

Avacon Natur project manager Torsten Hausmann said: “Due to the location, it is undoubtedly a lighthouse project.  After an intensive planning phase and many hours together with Vestas, we are looking forward to the successful execution of this unique project and are excited about operating this project in this special environment for many years to come.”

Once the turbines are installed, the new wind farm in Lower Saxony will generate approximately 75GWh annually, which is enough to power more than 20,000 German homes.

The order for Vestas includes supply, installation, commissioning of the wind turbines in addition to a 20-year Active Output Management (AOM 5000) service agreement and a VestasOnline Business SCADA solution.

Vestas northern and central Europe president Nils de Baar said: “We were faced with a unique project environment which required innovative solutions such as a Vestas Ice Detection system, a project specific installation concept meant for sites with extremely limited space and a condition monitoring system for the rotor blades.”

Vestas to begin turbine delivery for the German wind farm from Q2 2020

The Danish wind turbine company is expected to deliver the turbines to Avacon Natur starting from the second quarter next year. Commissioning of the turbines at the new German wind farm is planned for the third quarter of 2020.

Last month, Vestas bagged a 41MW turbine order from Bürgerwindpark Reußenköge for the expansion of a citizen-owned wind park located in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
