Danish wind turbine manufacturing company Vestas has secured a 270MW order to supply wind turbines for an undisclosed wind project in the US.
Under the contract, Vestas will supply 60 V163-4.5 MW turbines, the company’s newest high-capacity model. Vestas will also offer supply, delivery, and commissioning services.
In addition, a multi-year active output management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement has also been signed, aimed at optimising asset performance.
The American wind project has been developed by Steelhead Americas, the North American development arm of Vestas. This division handled all development aspects, including permitting, land acquisition, and construction design.
Steelhead Americas specialises in the in-house development of projects from the greenfield stage to construction readiness.
To date, the development unit is said to have delivered nearly 4GW of renewable energy projects in North America and has more than 5GW in its development pipeline.
The customer for the project remains undisclosed. Turbine deliveries are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026.
Vestas North America president Laura Beane said: “We’re pleased to close out 2024 by continuing to deliver significant projects across the U.S. and meet the growing demand for homegrown electricity while strengthening America’s energy independence and security.
“We’re also grateful to the expertise of Steelhead Americas for developing this project, a testament to their growing track record of creating meaningful business opportunities for communities across the US.”
In a separate announcement, Vestas disclosed a 203MW order for additional V163-4.5 MW turbines, coupled with a multi-year AOM 5000 service agreement. Delivery for this order is slated for Q3 2027.
Last week, Vestas secured a 99MW repowering contract from Iberdrola to upgrade two onshore wind farms in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain.
The contract involves the supply and installation of 11 V150-4.5 MW turbines for the Molar de Molinar wind farm and 11 V136-4.5 MW turbines for the Isabela wind farm.
